Senator Lere Oyewunmi Commends Gov Adeleke For Dredging Ikire Rivers

The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Akogun Lere Oyewumi, has commended  Governor Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke for responding  promptly sequel to the flooding that was recorded in Ikire last month.

 The senator , an indigene of Ikire,  has thanked  the governor for not only attending  to the humanitarian needs of his kinsmen but for also taking needed prevention measures.

 He noted that Osun  state Government has begun  the dredging of rivers in Ikire to avert flooding and further prevent the destruction of life and property.

‘The state government has commenced the dredging of waterways and rivers in Irewole local government as promised during the state delegation’s visit to the affected areas in Ikire’ he said.

Senator Lere Oyewumi added that the government has mapped out plans to improve and sustain urban drainage systems in most of the towns in the Osun West Senatorial district while other measures include flood mapping, flood vulnerability studies, and flood sensitization and awareness campaigns.

 The senator promised that he would not relent in his efforts to avert environmental disasters caused by heavy flooding.

 ‘Senator Oyewumi hereby calls on the people of Ikire, Osun West senatorial district, and other  Nigerians to adhere strictly to regulations on the environment, physical planning, and development towards averting and mitigating flood tragedy. He urges the residents to desist from building on waterways and engaging in indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and canals.

He equally appreciates Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin for his timely and purposeful response and quick intervention in the affected areas in the senatorial district’  a  statement by  his media office said.
