PIC. 6. CROSS SECTION OF POLICE OFFICERS IN TACTICAL DEMONSTRATION IN PREPARATION FOR PEACE KEEPING TO LIBERIA AND SUDAN IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY (19/11/13).

Former Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Mr. Olusola Amore last week declared that there is no alternative to police anywhere in the world, referring to it as the only important security institution. In the view of Amore, the setting up of quasi-security agencies is never a way forward or the solution to the nation’s security challenges. What should rather be done, however, is to improve the funding power for the existing police force. Amore who emphasized the need for community policing, had words of advice for those still in the service. He advised them to always work with the community, earn their confidence and persevere with whatever condition or situation they could find themselves. Providing hints on how to have a successful career, Amore submitted that ‘to be successful in the force, patience and perseverance are the key’. He backed his submission with an adage that says ‘hard time does not last but hard people do and after rainfall comes the sunshine’. Amore spoke at the pull-out parade held in his honour at the Kwara State police headquarters, the state deputy governor, Elder Peter Kisra who was also at the event urged serving policemen and officers to serve the nation with total commitments. He also stated that the tenure of the retired CP witnessed improved peace and security in the state; noting that the retired police boss has left a vacuum that will be difficult to fill. ‘Since you assumed duty here over a year ago, we had the continued grace and privilege to sleep with our  two eyes closed, because safety of lives and properties was assured, the police was  there to prevent citizens from molestation and assault and the populace could go about their  duties without any let or hindrance’, Kisra said.
