Rema
Nigerian Afrobeats star, Rema, has shared a troubling experience from his early life, revealing that he was drugged by women when he was still very young.
The revelation was made through the lyrics of his newly released song Moviestar, where he reflects on difficult moments from his early days as an emerging artiste.
The track features French pianist Sofiane Pamart.
In the song, Rema describes feeling taken advantage of during his early rise to fame. He hints at situations where substances were given to him, leaving him feeling vulnerable and emotionally affected during a critical stage of his career.
The singer uses the track to explore the darker realities of early success, including pressure, influence, and the challenges that came with sudden fame.
He also suggested that after signing his first record deal, he felt compelled to continue performing despite personal struggles and emotional stress.
Rema, who hails from Benin City, gained national attention in 2019 after signing with Mavin Records, marking the beginning of his rise in the music industry.
Since then, he has achieved global success, particularly with his hit song Calm Down, featuring Selena Gomez, which became one of the most streamed Afrobeats songs worldwide and earned multiple international recognitions.
