A video allegedly showing workers opening a condolence register to celebrate the removal of Wale Edun as minister of finance has surfaced on social media.
In the footage, a poster bearing Edun’s image is placed in front of a symbolic casket set on plastic chairs, while individuals take turns signing a condolence register. Sarcastic wailing can be heard in the background.
The video, shared by an X user, has garnered over 14,000 views, with 28 comments, 133 likes, and 116 reposts.
It was posted with the caption: “Disturbing video of workers opening a condolence register to celebrate Wale Edun’s removal as minister of finance. I will not be the only one to watch this.”
Another X user, Rinu Oduala, also claimed that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a mock obituary for Edun while calling for the party’s removal from power.
“APC members perform mock obituary for Wale Edun. If they can do this amongst themselves, imagine what they will do to you. Kick APC out today,” Oduala wrote.
An X account, ADC Vanguard, also shared the video with the caption: “BREAKING: Shock as staff celebrate Wale Edun’s removal with what appears to be a condolence register, exposing the depth of anger against the former minister.”
The clip has since been widely circulated across multiple accounts on X and Facebook.
On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu relieved Wale Edun of his position as minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, replacing him with Taiwo Oyedele, previously minister of state for finance.
The president also replaced Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, minister of housing and urban development, with Muttaqha Rabe Darma as minister-designate.
George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation, said the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as improving economic delivery to Nigerians.
Verifying the claim:
CableCheck ran the video through a reverse image search using Google Lens and found that it had been online since December 2025.
Further checks traced the footage to a protest staged by local contractors at the federal ministry of finance in Abuja over unpaid debts.
