Former deputy governor of Kwara State, Elder Peter Kisra is dead.

Kisra, who retired as Permanent Secretary before becoming the Deputy Governor served as number two citizen of Kwara State between 2011 and 2019.

The former Deputy Governor, who was recently discharged from the Unilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin a few weeks ago died in Ilorin at about 1am penultimate Saturday.

An indigene of Baruten local government, it had become apparent to all that the late Kisra was battling an illness during Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed’s first term and some had suggested the idea of replacing him ahead of the 2015 governorship election.

However, Kisra not only got renominated in 2015 and completed his second term but he had also witnessed the first term and a part of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s second term before passing on penultimate Saturday.

Recall that it was common to hear people in the state political circle say Kisra was living on borrowed time.

The then sickly deputy governor’s aide de camp, Inspector Gaiya Jerry Mark had died unexpectedly on January 8, 2014.

Kisra’s convoy had left his official residence for his office and they had a smooth ride until the convoy got to a place adjacent the deputy governor’s office. An okada rider rode rough and almost made the convoy record an accident. Attempts to get the man apprehended by the security men in the rear vehicle failed and he rode rougher to escape.

The ADC in annoyance ordered his driver to go after the okada rider who continued to maneuver his ways until he got to the UBA axis of the Iloffa road where he (Mark) eventually caught up with him.  Tragedy was launched as the dutiful police officer on alighting from his car to apprehend the okada rider suddenly collapsed and he was immediately rushed to the nearby Civil Service Clinic where he was declared as a BID (Brought in Dead) patient.  The okada rider, who was also shocked by the sudden development and had seen it all in a movie-like manner quickly fled the scene.

A veteran journalist and a jolly good fellow, Mr. Timothy Nathaniel who at different times served as Kisra’s Chief Press Secretary and Director of Protocol also died a few weeks ago.

It was gathered that mourners have begun to visit Kisra’s Fate, Ilorin residence to offer their condolences.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has also submitted that he was sad to receive the news of the death of the former Deputy Governor.

‘On behalf of the people and government of the state, Governor AbdulRazaq sends his heartfelt condolences to the people of Baruten local government and the family of Elder Kisira who he has urged to take solace in his fine legacies as a public servant and a bureaucrat who rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the state’s civil service’, the governor said.

The governor also said the former Deputy Governor will be remembered for his life of commendable public service and dedication to good causes.

‘He prays that God will receive his soul and look after the family that inherits him’, he added.
