Hon Akintoba Fatigun was with the City People Magazine before leaving to serve as Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s media aide during his second term as governor of Kwara State.
He later got elected and served as Chairman of Ekiti Local Government before returning as Dr Saraki’s strategist.
Ramadan/Lent: Kwara NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Holds First Joint Breaking Of Fast
With the lent and Ramadan underway, the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State penultimate Wednesday organized a joint breaking of fast Ramadan.
It is aimed at fostering unity and strengthening professional harmony among members of the chapel.
The event which is the brainchild of the chapel’s executive committee headed by the Chairman, Abiola Azeez of Tribune Newspaper brought journalists together at the chapel secretariat for spiritual reflections, candid discussions and refreshments.
Azeez said the gathering became necessary in view of recent developments within the chapel, particularly the loss of respected members. He noted that the demise of former chairman, Layiwola Olanrewaju and the passing of member Saka Laro seven months earlier were sobering reminders of life’s fragility.
‘These are sobering developments that should make us reflect on what we do and how we prepare for the eventualities of life,” he said, urging members to remain united and supportive of one another.
In his remarks, a former chairman of the chapel who is a veteran journalist, Elder Wole Adedeji described the coinciding observance of Ramadan and Lent by Muslims and Christians as deeply symbolic.
According to him, the overlap should serve as a divine call for unity and mutual respect among members irrespective of religious affiliation.
It speaks of something divine and must be a message urging unity among us regardless of which religion we belong’ Adedeji said.

Thomas Adewumi University Holds 6th Matriculation Ceremony
Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko-Irese, Kwara State welcomed 967 new students to the university penultimate week.
The matriculation ceremony which was the 6th edition, was attended by the Founder and Chancellor of the university, Engineer Johnson Adewumi, the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Victor Olanrewaju , the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Onaolapo Oladipo and other top officials of the institution.
Professor Francisca Onaolapo Oladipo noted that the 6th matriculation ceremony held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 was the beginning of ‘an exciting and transformative journey for the new 939 undergraduate and 29 postgraduate students’, adding that the event marks ‘a significant milestone in their lives’, as they embark on ‘a path of academic pursuit, personal growth, and lifelong learning’.

2026 Osun Guber Election Pushed By One Week
The 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election will no longer hold on August 8, 2026, its originally scheduled date.
The gubernatorial election in question will now hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) apparently considered the request made by members of the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association in the State of the Living Spring who had urged the electoral body not to go ahead with the gubernatorial election on August 8, 2026, as planned but rather choose and announce a new date that will not stand as a hindrance to a successful Osun Osogbo festival.
Making reference to the upcoming 2026 Osun Osogbo Festival which will hold on August 7, 2026, the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association had made the request through the letter sent to the head of the electoral body, Professor Joash Amupitan which was signed by its president, Dr. Oluseyi Atanda and dated January 20, 2026.
‘We are aware that the Osun State gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 8, 2026. However, as a religious body, we shall be asking for the shifting of the said date. We want to bring it to your notice that the Osun Osogbo Festival shall be coming up that same week.
Osun Osogbo Festival is a sacred connection to Osogbo and has become a World Tourism Festival. The Osun Osogbo Festival is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the festival has been on for over 20 years drawing large crowds all over the world.
The Osun Osogbo Festival is currently the largest crowd-pulling Festival in Nigeria. We want to bring it to your notice that the dates for the festival for this year have been fixed between the 27th of July, 2026 and 7th of August, 2026.
The said dates had been prefixed and calculated traditionally in harmony with some other festivals and spiritual rites. By custom, the Friday 7th of August 2026 is the grand finale for the festival and the festival activities on that Friday, 7th of August 2026, will not end until about 6:00pm after the Arugba retires back to the palace. Many adherents and tourists from within and outside Nigeria would have been in town especially on the 7th of August 2026, for the Osun Osogbo Festival’ Dr. Oluseyi Atanda had submitted.
Kwara Poly Students To Return To Campus On March 2nd
Students at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, who have been away from academic activities since last month will be returning to campus on March 2nd.
Director of the institution’s Information Division, Halimat Garba who disclosed the good news penultimate Thursday also said the management of the institution got the go-ahead from the Kwara State Government before announcing the reopening date.
‘The Management of Kwara State Polytechnic wishes to formally inform the entire Polytechnic community that the Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of the Polytechnic for academic and administrative work.
In line with this directive, the Polytechnic will resume on Monday, March 2, 2026. All staff and students are therefore urged to adhere to this directive and resume at the Polytechnic promptly on the stated date.
The Management appreciates both the staff and the students for their cooperation and understanding during the period of closure and looks forward to a productive and successful completion of the first semester 2025/2026 academic session’ she said.
The institution was shut down last month after students scuffled with the police, the students had objected to the use of the institution’s campus as a temporary orientation camp for new members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the protest had left the Chief Security Officer of the polytechnic injured.
A 3-member investigation committee was later set up by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq which was asked to look into the issue and identify the remote and immediate causes of the student protest in question.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engineer Abdul Jimoh Mohammed was asked to ‘immediately step aside’ from his role ‘until further notice’, while the most senior Deputy Rector, Dr Awolola Olabisi took over in acting capacity.

Kale Kawu Shakes Kwara With Ramadan Package
Kwara PDP gubernatorial aspirant, Engineer Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu shook the State of Harmony with Ramadan Package penultimate week.
The.distribution of the rice was done through the Kale Kawu Movement while noting that it was done in support efforts of the state PDP’s leadership to bring relief and smiles to the faces of residents across the state.
A delegation, led by the Chairman of the movement, Alh. Wahab Oba officially presented the items to the state PDP at the party secretariat on behalf of Engineer Suleiman Bolakale Kawu to the party Chairman, Hon. Isa Bawa.
Alhaji Wahab Oba said the donation was driven by compassion and a deep sense of responsibility to humanity, stressing that the gesture was not politically motivated.
According to him, Engr. Kawu believes the intervention is “not about politics but humanity; not about competition, but empathy and support,” particularly in solidarity with the efforts of Dr. Bukola Saraki to support the people of the state.
He added that Engr. Kawu remains firmly committed to lifelong service to God and humanity, noting that the initiative gives him personal joy and fulfillment.
“What is being delivered to the party today is only about one-third of what has already gone to communities across the state,” Oba stated.
Responding on behalf of the party leadership, Isa Bawa expressed appreciation to Engr. Kawu and his supporters for the timely intervention, describing it as a demonstration of loyalty, dedication and genuine concern for the welfare of the people.
He assured that the rice would be distributed strictly in line with the template submitted by the Kale Kawu Movement.
According to the approved distribution framework, Kwara South is allocated a total of 1,400 bags comprising 10kg and 5kg packages, Kwara North is allocated 1,130 bags while Kwara Central is allocated 2,500 bags to ensure equitable distribution across the three senatorial districts.
Engr. Kawu was represented at the event by several leaders of the movement including Deputy Chairman, SKK Movement, Alh. Tajudeen Zulu Oloje, Barr. Muhammed Ayansola (SKK Leader, Kwara South), Alh. Kehinde Baale (State Women Coordinator), Ismail Mubaraq (State Youth Coordinator), Alh. Baba Agaka, Hon. Soliu Adabata and Comrade Haroon Kannike (Central Youth Coordinator).
The Kale Kawu Movement reaffirmed its loyalty to the PDP and its commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift the living standards of citizens across the state.
