Governor Ademola Adeleke has sworn in heads of the Caretaker Committees that will be in charge of local governments and development councils in Osun state urging them to compete through developmental initiatives in their respective local governments.

Governor Adeleke, who inaugurated the Caretaker Chairpersons in Osogbo last week Wednesday, cited the need to fill the vacuum created at the Local government level.

He added that his administration has kick started the process of producing democratically elected leaders at the third tier of government in the near future.

The governor reminded the public that his administration came on board at a time of constitutional crisis at the Local Government level, submitting that ‘the previous government had grossly violated the constitution and the law by holding Kangaroo local government elections after the former ruling party had been voted out of power’.

‘Rather than complying with the specific provisions of the law, my predecessor ordered a sham election, creating legal conflict and a waste of billions of taxpayers’ money.

Our administration adopted legal routes to dismantle the inherited illegality. And as a government committed to upholding the constitution, we have mapped out a sustainable process that will fully restore normalcy to the local government system’ he added.
