An Invitation Too Tempting
In my mind, I was trying to do a quick thinking. Hanging out with Prince could be a bit risky, I know. For one, I wasn’t sure yet if I would like to be seen with him in public places. I agree he is a notorious guy, someone most decent ladies run away from. But then again, if I am not seen with him, how will MD know he has competition?
“Hello, fine girl, are you there? Can you hear me?” I heard Prince’s voice from the other end, barging into my thoughts.
“Yes, Prince, I’m here, I can hear you,” I responded, not sure yet what answer to give him.
“Oya now, wetin e go be, are you hanging out with me tonight?” he asked again, just in case I had forgotten what he wanted of me.
Meanwhile, Aunty Meg was gazing hard at me, her eyes piercing scornfully into mine, waiting to see if I would give in to Prince’s request.
“Listen, Anita, I can guarantee you that you will have a great time with me,” Prince tried to persuade me further. “I will give you a treat, I will take you to the finest and most expensive place in town. Anything you want to eat or drink, no matter the price, just point at it and it’s yours. I will be there with a few big boys too, so there’s nothing to fear,” he reassured me. Then, as though it just occurred to him, he quickly added, “And one more thing, Anita, I promise you that at the end of the day, when you’re leaving, the thanks for coming gift wey I go give you, I can bet say you will be impressed because only big boys like us know how to appreciate pretty babes like you,” he concluded.
I rolled my eyes in unspoken approval of his invitation. I could feel Aunty Meg’s burning eyes in me, willing me to reject his invitation and end the call. But a part of me told me to go ahead and have some fun for a change. I had suffered greatly in the hands of MD and his wife. I needed to loved, pampered and appreciated by a man that values me. I needed to get all the hurt and pain of MD’s hesitation to do the needful about our relationship. If the man could not see me as marriage worthy, then he should be prepared to share my attention with someone else!
