That the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, just set up an army of uniformed youth he called Biafra Secret Service (BSS) is no longer news. What is causing fear across the five Igbo states in the country is the fact that Kanu may have set up the BSS to intimidate voters in the Southeast region during the next general elections.

Recall that, Kanu recently warned that elections will be boycotted in the South-east states starting with the Anambra State gubernatorial election if the federal government fails to hold referendum for the realization of the state of Biafra. But insiders said what Kanu intends to do with his latest plot is beyond mere warning, claiming that he actually intends to enforce his warning with his BSS boys who will be used to force the electorate to do his biddings during the elections.

Global Excellence magazine’s source said that, in the Anambra State governorship election slated for November 18th, this year, Kanu already has his choice among the candidates. The sitting governor, Mr. Willie Obiano, is contesting for a second term. Meanwhile, the Nnamdi Kanu group, according to our source, wants a former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, to become the next governor.

There have been no love lost between the Kanu group, IPOB and the state government led by Obiano which IPOB sees as ‘a Buhari protege’.

Kanu was released on bail four months ago by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court for treasonable felony charges. In granting him bail in April 2017 after more than a year in detention, Justice Nyako listed 12 conditions, including an order for Kanu to avoid being seen in a crowd of more than 10 people.

The court also instructed that Kanu desist from granting interviews or engaging in any form of rallies as part of his conditions for bail.

However, barely one week after his release from detention, Kanu was seen speaking to a congregation of Biafran supporters where he vowed that there would be no form of election in the South-east during the 2019 general election, stressing that he would not relent in his agitation for Biafra.
