The 2017 Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) CEOs Training and End of the Year Gig has taken the centre stage and eventually bowed out amidst pomp and pageantry.
Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN), the umbrella body of Chief Executives Officers (CEOs) of Content Owners in Nigeria, especially over 85% of content/programmes on TV, Radio and Online in Nigeria under the distinguished leadership of her President Mr. Paul Igwe and the Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman, Mr. Wale Adenuga (MFR) consider it as very apt to strategically position her members and their staff for the big challenge that Digitization of content across all platforms will be coming with in Nigeria. Hence, different seminars and trainings are part of the core direction of the Association.
The training which took place at Pearlwort Hotel & Suites, Plot 7, Impressive Close, Off L.J Dosumu Street, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos some days ago had two facilitators in Messr. Niyi Akinmolayan (Director of The Wedding Party 2, The Arbitrator etc) and Patrick Akushie former Distributor with Cotequest. The first session by the former delved into the theme “Content Production: International Standards and Formats” while the latter did justice to the topic “Content Marketing With Bias to Pricing”.

The President in his remarks said ” EMCOAN has come of age, hence, at this level, we are poised to make impact and make history not just as members of EMCOAN but as a major stakeholders in the Media Broadcasting Industry in Nigeria and in Africa. Our slogan remains the same, if we must add value to the society, we must also sharpen and horn our skills the more to meet with current global trends and development, hence, we are happy for the opportunity this training is affording us all ” , he boasted.

In Niyi Akinmolayan’s presentation, he talked about different kinds of content for different platforms like cinemas/theatrical releases, terrestrial views, cable platforms, SVOD etc. He expanded on the importance of shooting with a camera that are compactable with African looks and feels, putting into cognizance future compatibility, long shelf life (content that will last and with future proof), content for better scalability, quality resolution etc. He further talked about production designs, lenses, lightening, post-production, editing format etc. In his words, ” as producers, we must invest more in quality lenses not just big name cameras and don’t leave the decision to get lenses to your Directors/Director Of Photograph (DOP) alone, be involved. Also, we get most production wrong from the beginning because we take for granted a very important factor which is the production design, spend the money on your designs, it brings out the best in productions ” he averred.

After the tea break, the second session facilitated by Patrick Akushie also came with his own baggage. The soft spoken trainer took on the topic ” Content Marketing with Bias To Pricing”. He elaborated on several sub-themes like International Distribution and Pricing Modules, Dubbing our content into French and other African Languages, Translation and Transcription, Pay TV Platforms and Considerations, Windowing, Specific Audience Identification and Location, Negotiation and the Negotiating Powers, Monitoring Strategy etc.
In his own word” Content is King but Content Distribution is the King Maker, it is not enough to produce good and quality content without being able to make good money off it via licensing and distribution. More than before, we should be more interested in French speaking and East Africa market (Kenya) because there is a lot of demand in these region and we must tap into it” he opined.

Group photographs and interviews followed with a lot of networking and unwinding during the buffet before the DJ took over the floor for the End of the Year Gig which spanned till late evening. Special appearance was an award winning song presentation by one of EMCOAN member, Ifeoma Chukwu with the stage name “IFY”, the song titled (Nothing Pass My God) had all members, guests and friends dancing and showering encomium on IFY’s MEGA Award 2017 Best Praise Single of the Year.

The two sessions for the training had members and some of their staff in attendance with a lot of media coverage from WAP TV, RAVE TV, R2TV, REEL E Magazine, JBY TV, Wazobia FM, Yaw Naija TV, SPLASH9JA, Brand Villa etc.
