The controversy surrounding the alleged plan to take over the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David parish in Lagos by the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and hand it over to his son, Leke, has continued to fester within the founding membership and leadership of the church.

It is recalled that the alleged plot to axe the Senior Pastor of the parish, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade and his wife, Dr Siju Iluyomade, over Siju’s 60th birthday celebration soon after the demise of a top member, Herbert Wigwe, has evolved over divergent opinions on whether hosting the birthday was appropriate or otherwise.

However, sources close to Pastor Adeboye had revealed that he had been prevailed upon to jettison the idea of replacing Pastor Iluyomade and wife just on the basis of hosting a birthday bash. Pastor Adeboye, according to information, had wanted to rescind the decision but was again encouraged by some of his allies whose eyes were said to have been fixated on Trinity Towers structure housing the parish.

The sources said; “we are surprised that the heat is still on, because some members of RCCG had reached out to the G.O last week with the hope that mature reasons will prevail only for us to hear that ‘Daddy G.O’ was still bent on replacing Pastor Idowu.

The Iluyomades and their congregation have put in enormous strength to place City of David where it is today having started from the scratch in 1995. It will be counterproductive for RCCG to take such a drastic step at this period. The church should avoid possible implosion. We don’t need to follow the social media court, but sit in a roundtable and iron out any issue we may perceive was wrong.”

Also, an influential member of RCCG who craved anonymity, had pointed out last week while in a meeting with some of the Church’s members, that; “If the church as a whole had relied on criticisms in the social media, Daddy G.O himself would have been queried or even deposed by now because the social media had said a lot of unprintable things about his personality and leadership style, which may or may not be true.
