It’s an open fact that the most important or trending issue is the 2023 general election. Ogun State is not left out in the scheming process as many aspirants have started showing interest in both the gubernatorial and House of Assembly seats.

While there are many candidates interested in representing the people of their constituencies in the State Assembly come 2023, this report is analysing five top Assembly aspirants who have in the last few months shown readiness in becoming the face of their constituents in the coming election.

Hon. Omolola Bakre, Wasiu Igbalaye, Oluwaseun Adebowale, Gbenga Abiodun and Oyewoga Ibrahim are the five top aspirants actualising their aspirations in becoming the voice of their constituency come 2023.

Wasiu Igbalaye popularly called IWA is an assembly aspirant for the Abeokuta South state constituency under the auspices of All Progressives Congress.

Igbalaye contested for the same position in the 2019 general election under the Labour Party where he lost to the current Assembly member representing the axis.

Because of his zeal in representing his people, Igbalaye decamped to APC in 2021 so as to actualize his dream in the coming election. He has carried out many empowerment programmes and assisted many people in his constituency.

Oluwaseun Adebowale also known as “MATICO” is an assembly aspirant contesting for the Obafemi Owode state constituency.

The House of Assembly aspirant has done a lot to impact on the lives of his people in the last few months.

Gbenga Abiodun popularly called Asepo is also an aspirant in Yewa North II (Ketu) constituency.

Asepo showed his interest in 2019 but was not given the APC ticket. Shortly after the 2019 election, Abiodun has been consulting with people that matter in the axis so as to actualize his dream in 2023.

Hon. Oyewoga Ibrahim is an aspirant for the forthcoming Ogun State 2023 House of Assembly under the platform of All Progressives Congress in Ijebu-Igbo.

Ibrahim has started consulting with people that matter in the axis as he is not ready to leave any stone unturned.

Omolola Bakre studied Broadcast Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos. She got Higher National Diploma in Marketing from The Polytechnic of Ibadan and went further to study Economics at Lagos State University.

Bakre had a degree in Housing and Social Work from South Bank University, London, U.K. and is now studying for B.A in Mental Health, Nursing at University of Essex.

Bakare is a servant, politician, wife and mother. Her passion is to make impact in governance through sponsorship of bills that touch the lives of the downtrodden populace.

Bakre has been touching lives through her pet project tagged Lola Bakre ‘Helping Hand Foundation’.

LBHF is on a mission to provide free education to young underprivileged children by building schools and equip them with necessary materials to make their education easy and to empower widows with necessary skills for them to be self-employed.

Due to her impact and energy in giving back to the community and people beyond her constituency, many are of the opinion that Hon. Bakre should aspire for much bigger seat like the Senate or House of Representatives.

Many have argued that the Assembly aspirant deserves more than just being a state lawmaker.

In an interview with the Assembly aspirant, she said, “as we are on plan to make our missions feasible, you should know we are not just full of words as we have taken lots of bold steps, extending our blessing to some primary schools in Ogun State by providing them with free written materials.

“We are planning to pay a reasonable amount of students’ school fees. We have been empowering widows and on a plan to build a place where we can properly equip them with different skills. We are not presently where we wish to be because of lack of funds but we are better than where we started and putting all things in place for a brighter future.”
