If you were asked to grade these from the healthiest to the least healthful you would probably place the whole wheat first.

 

In truth there is way less difference in terms of healthfulness between the whole wheat and the first white bread than you would guess.

 

The last bread is an artisanal loaf of white durum wheat bread. It’s made with just four ingredients: flour, water, a pinch of salt and sourdough or yeast.

 

The sliced loaves contain a whole lot of ingredients that include fats, sugar, preservatives.

The whole wheat bread just contains a little bit of bran and sometimes some wheat germ, but it has the same fats, sugar, etc.

 

If you want to eat bread that is healthful and delicious, invest in artisanal bread. For the fibers, eat lots of vegetables.
