Kwara State government has begun the payment of 2023/2024 bursary to indigenes of the state who are final year students at tertiary institutions in the country and a total of 9,989 people are expected to enjoy the scheme.

The state Ministry of Tertiary Education said the bursary recipients were sourced from the 27, 314 entry applicants from across the 16 local governments in the state.

‘Having been graciously approved by His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, we have started paying the N10,000 bursaries to each of the successful applicants.

The payment of bursary began on Wednesday, 27th March and it will continue until we finish the disbursement. We are paying directly to their bank accounts for transparency and accountability. There are a few of these successful applicants whose account details are not correct and we will contact them’, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde said.

The commissioner also said sequel to getting the go-ahead from the governor, the N100,000 grant approved  for the Law Students  (year 2022/2023 academic session) is also being paid directly  to  the 107 successful applicants who are indigenes of  Kwara State.

‘This kind gesture was because of the governor’s magnanimity and his commitment to putting a smile on the faces of final year students at tertiary institutions in the country who are  Kwara indigenes’, she said.

The commissioner also said many of those who applied for the bursary did not make the list on account of various irregularities such as incomplete information, invalid matriculation numbers, invalid Bank Verification Number (BVN), inappropriate or dubious details/information, among others.
