Some  among  the members of the ruling APC in Kwara state  have  dumped the party.

They have pitched tent with   the leading opposition party, the PDP.

The defectors led by Kawu Maizuma  cited misgovenance and pervasive intra party conflicts.

Maizuma Kawu Dogo who announced the decision to defect to the PDP on behalf of other members of the ruling APC   said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has failed to deliver on campaign promises.

‘We  are APC members from the Kwara North,   we are noble men and women who have taken  decision to leave the party.

Intraparty crisis at the state and national levels involving APC leaders has affected the party’ he said.

Maizuma also said members of the ruling APC have been left  in a state of considerable confusion.

‘Aspirations have not been   achieved. There is no confidence. People are left miserable and confused as a result of failure to fulfill campaign promises.

Centre cannot hold owing to injustice, lack of fairness and lack of sense of belonging’ he said.

Maizuma also noted that they waited for a whole year to discover the truth and later leapt to conclusions that the party and the government have failed.

He also asserted that what the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed presented as his achievements to mark the first anniversary of his administration dwarfed that of the current administration.

Giving his remarks, the state PDP state chairman, Hon Kola Shittu  who welcomed  the defectors,  described the development as unprecedented.  He promised that the new members will enjoy equal recognition with the old members.

‘We were not surprised with the development due to unfulfilled promises of the present administration in the state. Doors of our party are wide open just as our umbrella is big enough to house every citizen of the state.

We should take our future in our hands. I’ve directed party leaders across the state to open new register and issue memberships cards to new members so that registration will be done  at  the Ward level in order  to ensure that nobody is left behind’ he said.
