Former Interim President, Ernest Shonekan, Dies at 85

Interim National Government that succeeded the junta of General Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan GCFR, who holds the title as the Abese of Egbaland Chief Ernest Shonekan has died at the early hours of today in Lagos at the age 85.

 

 

He was the interim head of the Nigerian Government between August 26 and November 17 1993 when he was ousted in a coup led by late General Sani Abacha.

 

 

The reason for his death is still sketchy as his remains has been sent to the morgue before his family members plans a befitting burial for him.

 

 

He is also an elder statesman who would be given a befitting state burial by the federal Government of Nigeria.
