The embattled Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna has been asked by the top echelon of the distribution company to resign honourably amid allegations of graft and mismanagement leveled against him.
The news of his sack was widely reported on Thursday which prompted a response from the Corporate Communication Head, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, denying that neither did he resigned his position from the Kano DisCo but currently preoccupied with political engagements in Gombe State.
The top source who preferred anonymity has however insisted that he is to be subsequently replaced by Mr Abba Abubakar Aliyu.
It has also been revealed that KEDCO has appointed a Financial Controller and external auditors to check the books over cases of misappropriation against the Governorship aspirant in Gombe State.
The extent of sleaze and the need to save the distribution company from further financial embarrassment has also prompted its take over by Fidelity Bank and the appointment of Aliyu.
Despite the face saving measures, the leadership of the PDP in Gombe State are reportedly uncomfortable with the news of the sack and considers that the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in the state may use it against the party in their campaigns if Gwamna eventually secures the ticket to fly the party’s flag, even though he is not a frontliner.
Comments monitored on social media expressed disappointments at the news with a call on the party to ensure the party’s ticket is given to individual with impeccable character with clear cut chances of winning the Governorship election in 2023.
One of the commenters, Ibrahim Akko, stated that Gwamna’s desperation to secure the ticket may have prompted him to indulge in misappropriation of the company’s finances, which includes having ghost workers on the pay roll of KEDCO, payment of and owing hundreds of millions of hotels bills (at Tahir Guest inn) to political nonentities who visits him in Kano from Gombe as well as placing some retired Gombe politicians / public servants on the same payroll of KEDCO who are to assist him in arm twisting the party leader, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo to support him in securing the ticket of the party.
In the days and weeks ahead, it is expected that Gwamna’s role in the incapacitation of the company would be released to the public which may put his political ambition at a stand still.
