The formal Managing Director of Imperial Homes Mortgage Bank, Mr. Ben Akaneme, is currently being grilled by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC), a reliable source has revealed.
According to information, Akaneme’s arrest was effected following a formal invitation served on him by the anti-graft agency.
The former MD was said to have been spotted yesterday afternoon at the Property Fraud Department of the anti-graft agency at Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Reasons for his arrest was not immediately known. However, it was alleged that his ordeal might not be unconnected with the bank’s Board squabbles and alleged financial mismanagement which was allegedly discovered by inspectors while Akaneme held sway as the head of the financial institution.
The bank, in the recent times, has been swimming in financial mess, genesis of which was reportedly traced to the Akaneme’s tenure as MD.
Attempts to hear the suspect out to state his own side of the story were rebuffed by the EFCC operatives investigating the matter.
