A conflict of interest is presently brewing between the Presidential Amnesty Office under Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd) and that of the national security adviser (NSA) to President Muhammadu Buhari, as a group called Niger Delta Amnesty Vendors’ Forum just warned of possible “violent protests across the Niger Delta Region should the NSA fail to stop interfering with the day to day administration of the Presidential Amnesty Office”.

Briefing the newsmen during a protest march it organized in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in collaboration with other groups namely The Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-agitators and Justice for the Abandoned Youths of Nigeria, its president, Comrade Okpakariari Eferebo alleged that the NSA interfered unduly in the amnesty office’s affairs and shut it down, urging President Buhari to ‘call Monguno to order in the interest of peace on the region.

Meanwhile, according to an independent source, the group’s agitation may have been sanctioned by powerful forces in the amnesty office that might not be comfortable with the NSA’s alleged involvement in its affairs.

But the coordinator of the Patriotic Niger Deltans for Good Governance, Comrade Adonba Amgbare, claimed that the NSA’s interference had been linked with what he called “the recent provocative statements from some persons in the north”, warning that “the reported actions of the NSA could invalidate all the milestones of the present administration in achieving sustainable peace in the Niger Delta region.
