The Ogun state Government has warned the teeming public to ignore any form of calls from individual groups or organisations in the name of helping to fund government facilities or projects.
This warning is coming in the wake of a message making rounds in the social media wherein a group, under falsehood, is soliciting donations for the reconnection of the State Hospital, Ota to the national grid and daily procurement of diesel to power its generating set.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who sounded this note of warning while addressing news men in Abeokuta, said the State Hospital, Ota is not owing the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company IBEDC) and was never disconnected from the national grid.
She explained that the hospital has always been on 11KVA with a regular payment of N500,000 on a monthly basis to IBEDC and efforts are being made to connect it to 33KVA to enhance more hours of power supply and reduce the amount expended on fuelling the generating set.
The Commissioner asked members of the public to ignore the request for fund to power the hospital’s generating set, saying that the government will not go so low to the level of asking a group to help it raise fund into a personal account.
“No hospital under the purview of the Hospitals Management Board is owing IBEDC and none of our facilities has been disconnected from the national grid. We are only making efforts to move the State Hospital, Ota to the 33KVA from 11KVA that would help achieve about 12 hours power supply daily and reduce the cost of fuelling our generating set.
“The public should ignore the call from donations from any private organisations that want to enrich themselves in the name of helping government, “Coker said.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Toafeek Somade, explained that a group approached the facility with the interest to help in any area of challenge, and they have been told to channel their request to Hospitals Management Board to specify where they want to support.
Dr Somade, said arrangement has been concluded with IBDEC to connect the hospital to the 33KVA, assuring that all would be sorted out out within few weeks.
