One month after the death of former governor of Oyo State and leader of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the state, Late Chief Christopher Alao Akala, the  Akala Support Group, an embodiment of supporters and political associates of the late political icon have started to shop for a new leader to give the group a sense of direction and leadership as the activities kick-starting the 2023 general elections draw nearer.

It was this same group that came together under an umbrella body to make a clarion call on him to run for governorship for 2019.

This body comprises of artisans, market women, professionals and politicians who appreciated all the things the former governor did in his first tenure and for his human face to governance.

Since his demise, several names have been mentioned to fill the gap he left behind but as at the time of filing this report; no name has been announced by leaders of the group.

Members of the group during a chat with the Nigeria Standard correspondent called for unity of purpose among all to ensure that credible and acceptable person is picked to lead and continue the legacy of late Alao Akala.

Whoever puts on the cap left by late Akala has a bigger task ahead of him to further solidify the status of the political icon as a man of the people. Akala’s developmental strides have traversed across the length and breadth of Oyo State even as the general elections beckon and  his successor must be able to carry all interested and disinterested parties along.

Until someone fills the shoe, the search goes on even beyond Ogbomoso, the hometown and political stronghold of late Alao Christopher Alao Akala.
