Kwara Big Boy, Alhaji Yakubu Gobir has resumed philanthropic activities and this time around, he is doing it in a big way.
As part of its community development initiatives , the Gobir Organization Foundation, (GOF) announced plans to provide funds for developmental projects at the Okesuna Primary School, Ilorin penultimate Thursday.
It is the first primary school in Kwara State,
Alhaji Waziri Yakub Gobir said the organization will be spending N100 million on five -year development plan for the school.
The school which was founded in 1915 has produced eminent personalities that include the 9th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulukarnaini Gambari, the first Waziri of Ilorin, Alhaji Mohammed Gobir who served as head master at the school between 1931 and 1934.
Global Excellence gathered that Yakubu or any other member of the Gobir family has reasons to show interest in the school.
The late Ambassador Abubakar Garba Gobir who left the school in 1958 later became a teacher in same school.
Another member of the Gobir family, Alhaji Salihu Gobir also served as head master between 1963 and 1965.
Alhaji Yakubu Gobir who submitted that he considered it delightful to complement the efforts of the state government also noted that his intervention will be a life-time approach while blaming failure of other educational interventions in the country on lack of continuity.
Gobir recognized primary education as the basis of future academic excellence in every child and emphasized that an individual’s educational pursuit will be affected once the primary school level is faulty.
He, therefore, commended the teaching staff of the school for sustaining the long- ago academic excellence synonymous with the school .
Also speaking, the Education Secretary , Ilorin East Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdulahi Hassan said areas of urgent attention in the school include provision of furniture and toilet facilities as no single toilet has been built for both students and the teachers since the school was established.
He also requested for the repair of the school borehole and the provision of science kits, ceiling fans, school furniture and computer room equipment.
