Former Super Eagles player, Kanu Nwankwo, has explained his reasons for participating in the activities lined up to celebrate the 70th birthday of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Kanu and other former players’ visit to Tinubu on Saturday had sparked reactions on social media.

Addressing the concerns, Kanu said;

“Some people who are opposed to Tinubu’s ambition are talking rubbish about our participation in his 70th birthday.

I want to tell them to keep their politics of pull him down syndrome to themselves. I’m not a politician, I’m a footballer and a proud one, I’m a legend whom God has blessed bountifully from the game.

I know what is good and what is not good. 22 years ago, Kanu Heart Foundation was looking for people to help us start up so that we can help kids with heart problems to get treatment. It was most trying moment of my life, no one was ready to help, then governor Ahmed Tinubu then came in and helped me to start-up, them two other persons too.

Without him, perhaps, I wouldn’t have been able to put the Foundation together to help the kids. He gave the Foundation money to start up. He supported us. And now, it’s his 70th birthday. Why would anyone think I won’t be at the vanguard to support him too. He has helped each and everyone of us one way or the other, hence we also have to come and support him, afterall, he is one of the few best the country can get at this crucial time.”
