Hon. Zakari Mohammad who represents Baruten/Kaiama federal constituency at the House of Representatives is one of the PDP guber aspirants in Kwara State. After picking the nomination form in Abuja, the chap returned home to seek the support of his constituents before hitting the ground running and kicking off the guber project. He paid visits to the traditional rulers and the opinion leaders while he also spared time to hold interactive meeting with party members at the towns visited. The steps taken were for a dual purpose; to formally intimate them of his intention to join the guber race and to seek their support and blessings. The guber aspirant who is scheduled to pay similar visit to other top traditional rulers in Kwara North was in Baruten local government penultimate week and he was at the palaces of the four First Class Emirs in the local government.
The comments courtesy of the Emirs spoke volumes about what they considered the reasonability and the justification for the axis to produce the next governor of the state. The Emir of Gwanara ,Alhaji Sabi A Idris in an emotion -laden speech had this to say ‘As one of the founding fathers of Kwara State, I played the needed role by joining others to lay solid foundations for the state, strolling down memory lane, I recall the sacrifices we made. We have also been supportive to the people of other parts of the state. We willingly and happily embrace the candidates that the other zones have produced, I am happy that I am alive to witness having an aspirant from here for the first time.
It is my expectation that the people of other parts of the state will reciprocate by supporting your candidature, honestly, I don’t expect anything less from the other Kwarans. May I also appeal to our sons and daughters to please work in unison to get the long-time aspiration achieved by being totally committed to this noble cause” ,he said. The Emir of Yashikira, Alhaji Umar Usman Seriki equally spoke in the same vein, “The time is finally here. The task before us is to ensure that we achieve this long-time dream.
Every Batonou son and daughter has two roles to play; the first is to pray fervently that we get it done and the second one is to show commitment and work towards getting the agenda achieved, it is a religious duty that we must all consider important. It is time to shun sentiments and unite, Zakari has what it takes to be the governor and he has my blessings”, he submitted. The submission made by the Waziri of Ilesha-Baruba, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim was not in any way different. “We have supported the people of other zones, we have done the needful in respect of showing that we are good neighbours, our efforts should be appreciated and recognized by having the gestures reciprocated. We expect everybody in other parts of Kwara to readily support us”, he stated. The Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Abubakar Sherobetete Idris in his remarks asked the youths of Batonoum origin to hit the streets and begin to sell Zakari’s candidacy to the youths from other parts of the state. ‘For a long time now, the Batonou people have happily supported others and we have assisted immensely in getting governors produced from the other zones, I am calling on all sons and daughters of Baruten land to throw their weight behind the candidature of Zakari Mohammed, he has played good roles in touching people’s lives as a federal lawmaker. I want Batonou youths to go to all parts of the state to sell his candidacy. As a traditional father, my role is to give blessings to a genuine cause which I have done, I wish you success and pray that your ambition gets translated into reality”, he stated.
