The police have peacefully dispersed the youths protestesting in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city. This was in spite of being provoked by the wildly rioting youths believed to be members of the Shiite Islamic group demanding the release of their spiritual leader, Sheikh El Zaky Zaky.

Sources said that the youths initially thought the police were going to use maximum force after they attacked their armoured vehicles with such dangerous weapons as sticks and iron rods, so they ran for safety as the police approached.

However, sources said that the police only fired teargas to disperse them as they scampered out of the Unity Fountain venue of the protest.
