Issues relating to the bloody scenario recorded in Offa, Kwara State by some stone-hearted dudes last week is still the most discussed at political and social gatherings. Offa youths in their hundreds converged on the Owode Police Station on Thursday where an eight-day prayer session was held for the repose of the souls of the victims while they later held a procession in major streets in honour of the victims.

Meanwhile, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, has promised to procure Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) to beef up security in the city and other strategic locations in the state. The governor, however, appealed to the well-meaning citizens of the state to stand against any attempt by individuals or group of people to play up the unfortunate Offa robbery incident for political purposes. Ahmed who spoke in Ilorin while swearing-in Hon. Mas’ud Adebayo Oniye as new Khadi of the state Shariah Court of Appeal, condemned some utterances made to score political gain; submitting that such statements do not reflect the values known with Kwarans and that they should show respect to the dead and the injured by putting a stop to such an act. Governor Ahmed further assured Kwarans that the government will do everything within its power to ensure that the people of Offa and Kwara State will never experience such a tragedy again. ‘For the avoidance of doubt, let me reassure Kwarans and indeed all Nigerians that the culprits will be apprehended and brought to justice soon. Presently, the police and other security agencies have begun a vigorous manhunt for the perpetrators of the dastardly and the horrid attack on the peaceful and industrious people of Offa. Our people must, however, be vigilant and be security conscious as part of the community involvement in effective policing’, he said.
