Mrs. Aisha Al-Hassan, the Minister of Women Affairs, has resigned her appointment and also dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Her resignation came following her disqualification by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from contesting the 2019 governorship election in her state, Taraba.

According to the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, Mrs. Alhassan was disqualified because her loyalty to the party was doubted. This suspicion came following her public statement last year of her support to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mrs. Alhassan (aka Mama Taraba) after her resignation from the ruling party picked the United Democratic Party (UDP) nomination form to contest the Taraba State Governorship seat.

According to her, she left the APC with thousands of her supporters, making the APC the weakest party in her state.

She also noted that many aspirants seeking the APC ticket to contest various offices in 2019 would soon defect and pick the UDP nomination forms.

Mama Taraba accused Mr. Oshiomhole for her disqualification, saying that he (Oshiomhole) used his power to deal with her.

“It was not the screening committee that disqualified me; the chairman of the party personally did it.

“But, I have put that behind me. I have moved to the UDP and will seek its ticket to contest the governorship election.

“Oshiomhole has used his powers to deal with me, but it is God that gives power,” she said.
