Nigerian social media activist, Vincent Otse Martins, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has made public an alleged voice recording said to feature music promoter Sam Larry and singer Zlatan Ibile discussing the events surrounding the death of Mohbad.
In the audio, which has since gone viral, Zlatan is reportedly heard speaking in Yoruba, expressing his unwillingness to get involved in the controversy.
He cited the chaos that often follows online commentary as his reason for staying silent.
Sharing the audio clip via Instagram on Sunday, VeryDarkMan issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Zlatan, urging him to publicly explain his silence during the period when Nigerians were demanding justice for the late singer.
“I am going to be playing a voice recording between Zlatan and Sam Larry, during the time Mohbad died, now I expect in 48hrs Zlatan will come out to explain what he knows and why he did not speak out when we were seeking justice for Mohbad,” he said.
Addressing the backlash over his renewed focus on the case, the activist criticised those questioning his motives and described them as ungrateful.
“Secondly I see a lot of comments saying, ‘VDM why did you bring this case back,’ it shows a lot of you are ingrates, I deliberately brought this case back because I see a lot of you have moved on, that is why our government cannot take us seriously because we are so quick to move on.”
He stressed that Mohbad had yet to be buried, insisting the case remained unresolved and that many people who knew the truth used tactics to bury it.
“I really want to get justice for the boy, he has not been buried and his spirit is moving around, while some people knew the truth, they distracted everybody and used bullying to cover it up and you Zlatan, you kept quiet.”
VeryDarkMan added, “I don start that case again, anybody wey no like am make e enter bush, but you are not a real person if you ask me why I brought back the case again. So you want to make the case go down and you say you wanted justice for the boy. You all are fake, a lot of you are fake.”
The leaked audio has triggered mixed reactions online, with some defending Zlatan’s decision to remain quiet, while others are urging him to speak up and share his side of the story.
