The busy bee has no time for sorrow, noted an 18th century British poet cum visual artist, William Blake. Blake’s observation fittingly captures the life of Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Lagos State, Princess Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf.

The pharmacist turned politician from Alimosho council area, who lost her ex-hubby to the death’s cold hands, a few days ago, shunned despondency to attend to housemates at the Ibile Youth Academy (IYA), which produced the first Lagos Youth Ambassador, Lana Promise Elijah and four other divisional youth ambassadors.

At the grand finale of the event held at the Ipaja Youth Centre, not a few participants and youth leaders in the state poured encomiums on Akinbile-Yussuf for her uncommon passion for youth development in the state.

Those who are familiar with her trajectory in politics can also attest to her strides as a former Supervisory Councillor in charge of Agriculture and Social Development in Agbado/Oke Odo Local Council Development Area.

Since she joined the cabinet of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in 2015, she has left no one in doubt about her tenacity of purpose towards uplifting the lives of teeming youths in Lagos State.

Popularly called Moremi (named after the legendary amazon and liberator of people of Ile Ife) by her followers in Alimosho, Akinbile-Yussuf, a few months ago launched the first ever Lagos State Youth Policy, which encapsulates official welfare policies for the youth in the state.

The simultaneous skills acquisition programme organised for youths in the five divisions of the state in 2016, is also a testimony to her quest for better life for young persons in Lagos State.
