The Big Condition!

Aunty was silent for a while, then, seconds after, her face lit up with excitement. “Yes, I’ve got it!” she exclaimed with excitement.

“What is it, Aunty, what solution have you got?”

“The solution is a simple one; you will simply tell your husband when you return from the clinic that your period suddenly gushed out on your way home and it’s giving you severe menstrual pain!”

The idea seemed fantastic. Simple as it sounds, it was such a brilliant idea. How come I couldn’t think of that before? I was so relieved to know I’d finally found a solution to what seemed like a stumbling block to my getting rid of Jerry’s baby! And then, I suddenly remembered something, MD had an idea when my menstrual cycle came. In fact, I only just had one just about two weeks ago!

“Aunty, there’s a problem o,” I said quietly to my big Aunty friend.

“Problem?” she’d shot back. “What’s the problem again?”

I let out an exasperated sigh. “MD knows when my cycle usually begins.”

“He does? Are you serious?” Aunty Maggie retorted. She was surprised. “How come a man of his status, and one with two wives, remember to register such thing as his wives menstrual cycle?” she’d wondered aloud.

She turned to me again. “But are you sure he would remember so clearly that he would even begin to question its sudden flow?”

I nodded slowly in the affirmative. “I had my last flow just a little over two weeks, he would remember because he couldn’t touch me then too.

Aunty Maggie stared up quietly into space and then returned his attention to me.

“See, my dear, I don’t think we have any other option than to go ahead with the plan. All you will tell MD is that you don’t understand why the flow suddenly came again. And besides, it really does happen like that sometimes, don’t you know?”

I thought about it for a moment and felt she had a point. It does happen that way sometimes. But will MD buy the story? That remains the one million dollar question I don’t have answers to.

“Okay, Aunty, I think you’re right. You have a point,” I said to her.

“Of course, I have a point. So, can we get going now? If we don’t get to the clinic before dark, the doctor might not be able to do anything today.”

I rose to my feet. “Okay, then, let me go and inform MD we’re ready to leave, I just pray he won’t come up with any more excuse to stop me from going. Give me a minute, Aunty, I will be back soon.”

I slowly made my way out of her apartment and headed to mine where MD was waiting patiently for me. What will he say? Would he believe my story when I come back later in the day with a bleeding pussy? One thing I know for sure, if MD gets to find out the truth, there will be war!

He was watching football, his favourite programme on television apart from news, when I entered. I quickly adjusted myself and then went to join him on the seat.

“So, what have you decided to do? You’re still going?” MD asked me, his attention still glued to the television.

“Yes, dear, I am still going,” I told him softly. “But I assure you that we won’t be long, I will be back soon”.

He didn’t seem happy to hear that, I could see the displeasure on his face.

“You know I’m not happy about this,” he’d lamented, slowly turning to face me.

“I know, sweetheart, I know you’re not happy…”

“No, Anita, I’m not sure you do,” he’d retorted. “I actually cancelled out other things I could’ve stayed back home to give attention to but instead chose to be with you and my son, only for you to be telling me you have some place important to go. How can I be pleased with that?”

I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around him. “Sweetheart, I have explained everything to you, it’s about business, this is a business opportunity I don’t want to miss. Please, don’t be upset with me”.

He was quiet for a while, then he shrugged. “Okay, then, if you insist you must go”, he finally responded, still sounding far from pleased with me.

“It is important, MD, that is why I need to go, otherwise, I would’ve stayed back,” I said in my most appealing voice.

“Okay, then, no problem, I will let you go, but only on one condition..”

“And what condition is that?”

“You must be back here within the next two hours!”
