Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Ltd (PINL) has confirmed that their covert operations team provided crucial intelligence leading to the arrest of a suspect connected to an explosion on the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Nigeria.

The suspect was apprehended following an explosion that occurred Sunday, March 16, 2025, on the pipeline’s right of way in Aluu community, Rivers State. The blast claimed the life of another suspected vandal at the scene.

“A suspected vandal was apprehended in connection with the incident. The suspect is currently in custody of the Nigeria Police while further investigation is being carried out to nab other perpetrators in the act,” Ebikeme, a PINL operations staff member, told journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Security agencies are continuing their investigation in collaboration with PINL to identify additional suspects involved in the vandalism of the critical infrastructure. The TNP is one of Nigeria’s largest oil pipelines, transporting approximately 450,000 barrels of crude oil daily from the Niger Delta region to the Bonny export terminal.
