Sonnia Agu Replicates Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, Honours 30 Distinguished Nigerians Oct 1

It was a day to remember in the annals of Nigerian social and political circles when on October 1, 2021, 30 distinguished Nigerians were presented with the ‘Nigerian National Award of Excellence. The eminent citizens were so honoured, according to the chief organizer of the awards event, for their efforts in contributing to the socio-economic and political development of Nigeria.

 

Agu, the CEO of Sapio Club, noted during a press chat that, she hosts the Independence event annually to encourage patriotism, so it was not a surprise that she was decked in the Nigerian national colours of green-white-green to complement a fellow patriot, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who did same on the Independence anniversary occasion and whom Agu also praised highly at the event.

 

Prominent among celebrities who were honoured at the awards ceremony include Prof. Ademola Abass, a lawyer, author, security expert, adviser on overseas affairs and investment, Lagos State; Rev. Fr. Dr. Wilfred Nwachukwu, resident priest at St Leo, Ikeja. Father of the day and mother of the day were both Prince (Dr.) Yemisi Adedoyin Shylion  and Ms.  Evelyn Oputu, an astute banker and former managing director, Bank of Industry.

Also awarded were John Olatunji, a superintendent of police, Seun Kuti, a Nigerian musician and the youngest son of famous Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti; Dr. Henrieta Onwugbuale, Mr. Abisoye Fagade, a businessman and politician, and famous music producer, Don Jazzy.

 

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ambassador Sonnia Agu stated that “this is the genesis of my humility. I’m thankful to God for this awareness and consciousness of His rare gift and thoughts in creating me. I am and I am a woman. Not just any woman, I am an African, Nigerian woman and today, I wear the spirits of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for every woman. Today, we celebrate Dr. Ngozi Nigeria celebrates her and she’s my Nigerian hero for 2021.
