In recent years, it was Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade always winning awards for The Best Female at MAMAs and other recognitions.
Simi wasn’t in the mix; three years ago, Simi was just coming up. Jamb Question, Tiff and her Smash hit with Falz, Soldier shot her up to the top.
Whilst she was still battling with the limit of Alternative Genre, she had moved up and was now in the cadre of Seyi Shay and Cynthia Morgan while Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage kept battling for the top spot.
However, last year was a major shake-up in the industry. Simi dropped her album and began battling Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage.
It was like the race for the Premier League title. What was sustaining Tiwa was her ‘collabo’ with Wizkid. Yemi was like Chelsea battling for the champion league spot.
Her Tum Bum music was no longer working wonders and her last hit dated back to the time when we heard Johnny.
Buzzing through with the hype and noise was Simi. She wasn’t making the noise though, her music was making the needed effect. Feel Good music.
This sent shivers through the spines of every female artiste. Everyone fell in love with Simisola. It got addicted. This was like the Codeine diet to totally clear our cough.
It was no surprise when at the Headies, Simi bagged three awards. Tiwa and Yemi Alade bagged one each.
She completely swept everyone off his/her feet and that’s the effect of quality music.
While Tiwa Savage keeps trending due to her controversy with Wizkid, Simi’s music keeps paving the way for her.
And there’s no one contesting with her yet. But while we can’t judge based on the Headies Win, Tiwa and Yemi Alade have been dropping really good music of recent.
