Engr. Seyi Makinde, a philanthropist and politician is one of those who are aspiring to be the next governor of Oyo State but his political steps are not always in the right direction since he joined politics. He surrounds himself with political analysts and intellectuals but when it comes to performance on the field; they have little value. Again, during the last gubernatorial election when he left PDP for SDP, he spent billions of naira to actualize the dream of becoming the state governor but he lost based on the fact that SDP is not a strong platform and at the same time insincerity of many of the people around him. One good thing he has been able to achieve is that he has warmed himself into the hearts of people through his philanthropic gesture and at the same time gained more ground politically. Presently, he is negotiating with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party. In fact, he sent representatives to PDP reconciliation meeting in order to have a recognition as a leader in the party but some PDP members who are already on ground said they may not give him a breathing space in the party because he worked against the party in 2015 election and at the same time his interest in becoming the party flagbearer in 2019 may not be feasible.
