Facts are beginning to emerge about the fight between rival members of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) that led to the disruption of the flag-off rally of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The august event which held at Skypower Ground, Ikeja, Global Excellence magazine learnt, came to a hasty closure when suspected thugs loyal to a top member of the state’s NURTW executive reportedly attacked the venue with guns, machetes, knives and other dangerous weapons. According to a very reliable source, the attack was led by one Mustapha Seigo, who is said to be an ally of MC Oluomo.

There has been the story about rivalry between Oluomo and another Lagos NURTW top shot, Kunle Lawal a.k.a. Kunle Poly. According to those flying the story, Oluomo who is the incumbent Lagos NURTW treasurer, was gunning for the state chairmanship seat presently occupied by Mr. Tajudeen Agbede. However, according to the narration, Agbede was more disposed to having Kunle Poly succeed him based on trust.

On few occasions, since the alleged war began, sources claimed Kunle Poly had escaped attempted assassinations; he lost his personal assistant named Pinhero, at one of such attacks, though.

Meanwhile, at the governorship campaign ground, Kunle Poly who reportedly came to the event on the platform of ‘Team Lagos’, a solidarity forum headed by Agbede,

MC Oluomo

was on the stage with Fuji music artiste, K1 de Ultimate who performed for the crowd, while Oluomo and Seigo and their men had no such opportunity because, according to sources, they came late to the event.  Oluomo and his men were reportedly embarrassed by the development, which eyewitnesses said was the basis for the attack.

An inside source confided in Global Excellence magazine that, Kunle Poly and his men were the target of the attack which was allegedly ordered by Seigo at the time the State governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, was addressing the audience.

“It was Kunle Poly they targeted,” squealed the source, adding, “but when they couldn’t gain access to the stage, they started attacking party boys who came with their candidates’ placards to the venue.” The source claimed that it was one of these aggrieved party supporters who had free access to Oluomo and stabbed him when the situation became rowdy.

A video clip exclusively obtained by Global Excellence magazine showed Seigo’s men violently engaging party supporters while innocent party members were seen being chased around the venue. Those familiar with Seigo group, while examining the video clip, had identified six of the rampaging boys as Fela, Ikeowo, Tessy Leader, Kazeem Olokodana, Smart and Ige Fema. The boys were said to be members of the Seigo group in Lagos Island.

Also in the video, Seigo was seen engaging policemen who had moved to rein in his boys. Those present at the spot told Global Excellence that the gang leader actually harassed the policemen and warned them against stopping his boys.

While Lagos State police spokesman, Chike Oti, confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, he asked Seigo to come out and clear himself.

Seigo was declared wanted immediately after the event was distrupted.

Although, attempts to get Kunle Poly to state his own side of the story proved abortive, a source close to him said he had earlier made a statement absolving members of his group from Oluomo’s attack, while challenging anyone who has contrary evidence to make it public.

Meanwhile, the national president of NURTW, Alhaji Najeem Yasin, would be meeting with the State Administrative Council (SAC) led by the state chairman, Agbede, on Monday,

Kunle Poly

14th of January, 2019, at an emergency meeting in Abuja aimed at finding lasting peace to what has become an endless rivalry between members of the Lagos chapter of the union.
