REMI TINUBU Tasks Women As OMOWUNMI OLATUNJI Remembers Late Mother
“The story must change for us to have development in our nation” these were the words of Senator Oluremi Tinubu in Akure, Ondo State capital on Easter Sunday while honouring the 12th  Remembrance and Empowerment Programme in memory of Princess Monisola Adeniyan-Olatunji Eddo who died in 2004 at the age of 70, mother of Hon. Princess Omowunmi Olatunji, a former lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Senator Tinubu, the special guest of honour, was represented by Prof. (Mrs). Olasumbo Ajayi Boroffice. She said; “This is time for women to show more commitment in politics for growth and development”.

She charged women to be fully active in politics, the only way we can be recognized for development and growth. Sen. Tinubu described Hon. Olatunji as a role model for women and youths in Ondo State.

She congratulated her for the empowerment programme which is a plus for All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and its succour for people. Tinubu stressed that, Olatunji has done so much in Lagos as one of the respected and vibrant lawmakers and we are proud of her. She urged women to emulate Olatunji’s kindness and be more active in politics for a positive change in the state”. The organizer, Hon. Princess Omowunmi Olatunji in her welcome address appreciated everyone for honouring her.

Hon. Olatunji described her late mother, Princess Monisola Olatunji Eddo as a “selfless woman”, “a princess jewel”, “a mother of mother” “a fluent reflection of alluring royalty”, “a woman of virtue with the fear of God who until she succumbed to the irreversible pull of mortality 12 years ago, still possessed her mortality grace “, “feminine strides”, “wifely” and “disciplinary” disposition as a guide to us her children and her husband. Having said all these about my mother, you will agree with me that when one is born by such a great character, you cannot but keep the fire of fine humanity aglow with lofty ideas that will stand the test of time. In line with this conviction, I have decided to rouse my political capacity and humanness with this annual Empowerment Programme which is 12th edition, first in Ondo State in keeping the memory of my beloved mother alive by putting smiles on faces of people every year. She stressed that over 1,005 people will be beneficiaries of this largesse, mostly women, widows, the less privileged, orphans, artisans, youths, market men and women, and the needy across the political wards in the state. The items ranging from refrigerators – 100, dryers – 100, standing fans – 400, sterilizers with clippers – 100, generators – 100, sewing machines – 52, popcorn machines – 10 others are coolers – 200, rice 12.5 kilos net – 400, grounding machines – 10, water dispensers – 5 and cash of N250,000 for the widows and aged.

She said, “I have done so much in Lagos and it’s time to do more for my people. Growth and prosperity can never thrive under the strains and jangling cords of political intolerance, violence and weird disposition”.

Olatunji urged the youth to shun all forms of political violence as well as divisive tendencies that may be put in place by men who are only motivated by greed and pecuniary interest. “Youth of Ondo State, don’t be drawn into the pitfalls of thuggery by men who dispense filthy money (in stipends) while their children are far away in safe haven”. She further stressed that, women are very active in voting process but now we must change the game and participate in governance and take position for development of our nation. “Our dear women, when we work together to construct the melody of peace, we shall all dance together in pure bliss and comfort”.

Olatunji noted that today is a clear landmark, a new beginning in our party – APC. “A relationship that will offer a turning point in selfless public service and bountiful reward for loyalty. So, together let’s move beyond the challenges that limited us. Let’s work together like siblings of same heritage, the united family, ever ready to possess their possessions”. Olatunji added. The Chairman of the day, Prof. Senator Ajayi Boroffice, representing Ondo north senatorial district in Ondo State congratulated Hon. Princess Omowunmi Olatunji for this great gesture. Sen. Boroffice described the empowerment as one of its kind and it’s unprecedented for an individual to empower over 1,005 people, it’s a celebration day for women and youth in the Ondo State.  She said the state is in pains. “No good roads, our schools’ infrastructure are in bad state, and no medical facilities”.
