buhari-holidaysOne might think that the death of a celebrity would be relatively easy to double check before reporting it. But that would be a wrong notion. For years, the news has been jumping the gun on the deaths of some of our most celebrated personalities. So, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, has joined the list of hundreds in the world history who had had the weird experience of reading their own obituaries.

There is the all-time belief that, reading your own obituary notice elongates your life span. They say it gives you the second wind and a new lease of life. Let’s hope it turns out so for the 74 years old army general whose death rumour had spread like wild fire within two days of his traveling to the United Kingdom on leave.

Buhari’s purported death expectedly did raise an alarm not only among Nigerians, majority of who are admired by his genuine leadership qualities, it also almost caused disorder within the political rings until the presidency released his picture on Sunday, 22nd January 2017 in a relaxed mood watching the local news in an apartment in the United Kingdom.

The picture it was that doused the tension, although his senior special assistant on the media, Garba Sheu earlier released a short statement which analysts view provided no relief to the situation.

In the picture released by Femi Adesina, Buhari’s special adviser on media and publicity, the president was spotted donning a black kaftan and a black cap in a sitting room while watching Channels Television.

Adesina convoyed the picture on his official Facebook page with this statement;

“As he holidays in London, President Muhammadu Buhari keeps abreast with events at home. On Sunday, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, was guest of Channels Television. President Buhari also kept a date, January 22, 2017.”
