Osun Govt. Declares June 12 Public Holiday

Osun State government has as usual declared June 12 a public holiday. The Rauf Aregbesola’s administration has since inception been observing June 12 as Democracy Day in  commemoration  of the 1993 presidential election, which was adjudged the freest and the fairest in the history of Nigeria.  Dr. Obawale Adebisi who is the Commissioner for Home Affairs said Aregbesola has had a strong conviction that “June 12, 1993 was the day democracy berthed in Nigeria and has thus been annually addressing the day as such since 2011.  Aregbesola’s stance on June 12 as Democracy Day has according to the commissioner been justified by President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of the day as Nigeria’s democracy day, against May 29 and honouring the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election a posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).The governor commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the righteous step of honouring June 12 and key players of the 1993 presidential election 25 years after.
