Osun State government last week cried out and alleged that the opposition camp in the state have embarked on plots to destroy infrastructures built by the Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration in Osogbo, the state capital. The accusation followed the acts of vandalism recorded at the ‘November 26’ and ‘August 9’ bridges of the Osogbo-East bypass by some yet to be identified vandals. Global Excellence gathered that about six feet of the rod used for the expansion joint of the ‘November 26’ bridge on the Osun river was cut away while the street light armoured cables were also carted away by the vandals. At the ‘August 9’ bridge, four-cast iron which allows surface run off water on the bridge were also stolen. The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Kazeem Salami accompanied by his counterpart in the Ministry of Information, Hon. Adelani Baderinwa inspected the bridges penultimate Monday. Salami who described the incident as a deliberate sabotage of the infrastructure by those he referred to as the enemies of progress dismissed the rumour that the bridge was about to collapse, he submitted that the vandalized section of the bridge does not in any way have structural defect on it, stressing that the bridges would last for 30 years before any maintenance work on them could be necessary. He further explained that the expansion joint vandalised was just to take care of the elasticity of the concrete on the bridge, stating that there is no structural defect on them.
