The Onipokia-in-Council has disowned a publication entitled “Onipokia Renews Bid for Paramount Status in Yewa Traditional Council vis a vis The Olofin of Ado and Erikiti Kingdoms Nexus” written by one Kabir Olawale Alagbe, in September 29, 2020. In the said article, Mr. Alagbe had based his assumption on the historical facts contained in a write-up titled “SIGNIFICANCE OF IPOKIA IN EGBADO (YEWA DIVISION)” published in Ogun State’s Magazine – “SPECIAL REPORT ON TOURISM POTENTIALS OF OGUN STATE: NIGERIA HERITAGE” Vol. 7 No. 3, 2020, dedicated to the coronation ceremony of the 46th Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom.

The write-up, according to Onipokia-in-Council, was never intended to renew Onipokia’s bid for paramouncy as claimed by Mr. Alagbe. It was meant to highlight and promote Ipokia’s rich history and heritage as was done in series of pamphlets published during the previous Ipokia events.

Onipokia of Ipokia, Oba Yisa Olaniyan

“Undeniably”, the statement reads, “there are elements of facts in Alagbe’s article, however, he needs to be reminded that history is scientific and enduring. Every fact stated in the write-up on Ipokia in the Ogun State’s magazine, are with documentary evidences which are accessible to any interested member of the public.

We wish to state with all emphasis, that Mr. Alagbe neither consulted nor was he sponsored by the Onipokia of Ipokia to make such publication as is being peddled in some quarters. No doubt, he had assumed and alluded to some historical facts which are capable of wiping up sentiments and sowing the seeds of discord amongst our Traditional leaders. This is highly regrettable and must be resisted by all well-meaning Yewa indigenes.

As peace-loving people of Ipokia Kingdom, we wish to reaffirm the bonds, partnership and excellent subsisting relations between us and the people of Ilaro and Ado-Odo as well as those of the other Kingdoms in Ogun West, and indeed, Ogun State. The public should, therefore, note that HRM Oba Yisa Olusola Adeniyi Olaniyan (Oshingin II), Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom, is never in any way in contention with HRM Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewa and the Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo, over the paramouncy of Yewa.

In view of the above and on behalf of the good people of Ipokia Kingdom, Oba Yisa Olaniyan urges members of the public to discountenance the article published by Mr. Kabir Alagbe.”
