Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, calls for peace and unity after Supreme Court verdict

Supreme Court has refused an application by the Olugbense Ruling House of Offa in Kwara State to revisit an alleged error in its earlier judgment which upheld the Gbadamasi Ruling House.

The judgment by a five-man panel of justices presided by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, adviced the parties to return to the community and the state government to re-appraise any lingering issues.

Prince Abdulrauf Adegboyega Keji, through his lawyer, Dayo Akinlaja (SAN) had challenged the jurisdiction of the apex court to make the order of July 1, 2016, where it erroneously calculated the number of days, statutorily 90 days, within which an application by the Gbadamasi Ruling House was made.

The Olugbense family had in 2010 challenged the admission of the report of the 1970 Sawyer Commission of Inquiry into the Offa stool, which does not recognize rotation among the two houses.

The 1970 Official Gazette of the Kwara State Government recognizes rotation between the Gbadamasi and Olugbense Houses.

Meanwhile, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamasi, Esuwoye II, yesterday hailed the judgment of the apex court in recognizing him as the authentic Olofa.

“The victory is for all sons and daughters of Offa. They should let us come together and make Offa great,” he said.
