Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape said in line with the mission and vision of the Ministry, she was ready to ensure that the welfare of women, children and the old persons in the State were given adequate attention, particularly, the older people.

Mrs. Efuwape made this known while speaking with newsmen in her office at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta, noting that some old people were not well taken care of and that plans were on by her Ministry to have a home for the senior citizens in the State.

According to her, “old people need company, somebody to talk to and to watch their diet, so, we are hoping to have an old people’s home where they will keep each other’s company, with doctors attached to them to check their state of health regularly and their children abroad would have rest of mind that their parents are being taken care of back home”.

She added that through participatory approaches for sustainable development of the State, she would ensure poverty alleviation among women to make them self-reliant and good ambassadors of the State, advising them not to see themselves as weaker vessels, rather they should embrace gender equality and stand up for their children.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Hon. (Mrs.) Adijat Adeleye assured women that, as much as they have contributed their quota in the electioneering campaign, the dividends of democracy would surely get to them.

“Gone are the days when women would be used during electioneering campaigns as mere instruments and thereafter done away with. Now, we are ready to take care of their needs and welfare so that they can enjoy what they have worked for”, she stated.
