Ogun Pledges Support For Children, Women

Ogun State Government has pledged to continue to give appropriate support at improving the health condition of children and pregnant women through effective and efficient Primary Health Care Programmes.

The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun gave the assurance at the flag off of the first round of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week held at Makun Health Center in Sagamu Local Government Area.

Represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga, Governor Amosun noted that his administration considered primary health care sub-sector as a key to finding solution to the common ailments affecting vulnerable groups, assuring that it would make it more accessible and affordable to all nursing mothers and children in the state.

While highlighting the importance of the maternal, new-born and child health week, the governor said the programme was put in place to address the rising maternal and child mobility rate in the state.

Governor Amosun also pledged the determination of his administration to repackage the Social Health Insurance Scheme by providing adequate funds for the programme with a view to improving the well being of women and children, saying aside from renovation of primary healthcare centres, government had also carried out training of health workers to improve their performance.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye in his remarks said cases of polio were last reported in 2009, noting that government was working round the clock to consolidate on the achievements through effective health programmes such as ‘ARAYA’ and others.
