There is an indication that Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, may have dropped the idea of fielding his newly appointed chief of staff, Mr. Tolu Odebiyi, as the next governor after him.

According to insiders within the government circle, though Governor Amosun has not abandoned the idea of seeing a Yewa man becoming the next governor, he is looking in the direction of another Yewa man for the 2019 job.

As we gathered, the governor has three prominent Yewa sons in mind right now, although the qualification of Mr. Odebiyi for the office is not in doubt. What we couldn’t find out was why the governor would drop Odebiyi whose name had been everywhere as the next man in line for the job.

The three names being touted right now by gist merchants among whom  Amosun’s successor will emerge, are Hon. Isiaq Akinlade, a former member of the House of Representatives, the incumbent commissioner for urban and physical planning, or the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi. Adekunbi’s name came up, we learnt, because the candidacy of a woman, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun failed to fly.

Meanwhile, sources have added that Governor Amosun is still not narrowing his gaze on those three names alone. He is said to be spreading his search to other popular names in the Yewa zone.
