Renowned for exploiting innuendoes to pass his message across, former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, two days ago, was at his usual element when he stormed a PDP rally in his native Ogun State.

The former president had surprised many when he appeared at the campaign rally of one of the governorship aspirants in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu.

It is on record that Obasanjo dumped the PDP, his former party in 2015 and publicly tore his membership card following a disagreement with then President Goodluck Jonathan.

Meanwhile, while addressing the crowd at Ladi Adebutu’s rally, Obasanjo in his native Yoruba dialect narrated an experience he said he encountered on his way to the rally. He said as he left his compound, he accosted some guys and asked them ‘what’s going on in town?’, to which they replied him ‘bi awada bi ere’ (just fun and kidding around).

Obasanjo said he felt okay with their response and since he loves being wherever it’s happening ‘bi awada bi ere’, he decided to visit the Adebutu rally.

He then left the rally venue with a parting complement; ‘e ku awada e ku ere o’ (literally meaning ‘keep kidding o’).

Those familiar with Obasanjo’s style apparently does not find his parting speech humorous. Though his presence at the campaign ground was a booster for Adebutu’s aspiration, they recognized the fact that the former president was passing a message of no hope for the young politician’s governorship bid, albeit

ambiguously, because, they argue, Obasanjo has his preferred candidate for the job.
