A real estate developer, Mr. Fasina Olajide has called on both Federal and State governments to partner with private real estate developers and financial institutions, to provide good and affordable housing for the citizens of the country.

Fasina, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Olageospatial Global Investment Company (OGIC), a real estate development company, insisted that the government alone, cannot not meet the housing need of the people hence, government must partner with the private sector to solve the problem of housing deficits in the country.

Fasina made the call while speaking to journalists at the official unveiling of the company’s brand Ambassador, MC Murphy in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

According to the United Nations, the housing deficits of Nigeria is estimated at 22 million homes, this in Fasina’s view was alarming, revealing that in the next ten years, the number of Nigerians with no homes would have doubled.

To resolve this, Fasina called on government at all levels to make to make land and finances available for real estate developers.

His words, “In the next ten years, with the rate at which the Nigerian population is growing, it will be very difficult for people to own houses, people will be living on the streets and everywhere is going to be choked up.

“The government at all levels need to make finances ready for developers to achieve the housing demand of Nigeria.

“Land should also be made available for developers, Nigeria has a lot of land mass, if the government could make the land relatively cheap to the developer, then there will be massive development on the land.

“If you look at the land tenure system in Nigeria, it vested the power to federal government to own the land. There is lots of land mass in Nigeria, if government should make the land to be free or remove the cost of land payment from house building, you will see that, majority of Nigerians Will become house owners”.

“If as a civil servant, a land is allocated to you, then you can bring in developers to develop it for you and there is a certain amount of money deducted from your salary monthly to pay for the development by doing this, we will be able solve a lot of problems in the housing sector”, Fasina stated.

Speaking on his company’s plan to reduce housing deficit in Ogun State, Fasina said, “We have flexible and convenient payment plans, for everybody that acquire for a land through us, with your little income, we allow people to build, we can create a five years payment plan, depending on your income.

“We look at your income and your expedition and we look at the kind of house you can build, based on your income rate and after we sign MoU with you, within a year, OGIC will make”, he affirmed.
