Nigerian rapper, Odumodublvck, has addressed the viral incident that unfolded during his acceptance speech at the 17th Headies Awards, where his microphone was unexpectedly turned off mid-speech.

The award show, held on April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, saw Odumodublvck take home two honors, including the coveted “Next Rated” award.

However, celebrations were interrupted when, during his emotional speech, the rapper began speaking about his faith in Jesus Christ—and his mic was abruptly cut off.

A clip of the incident quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread backlash and igniting conversations about religious expression and censorship in the entertainment industry.

Responding to the controversy on Tuesday, Odumodublvck shared his side of the story in a post on X (formerly Twitter), explaining what happened on stage and expressing his belief that the microphone was muted because he mentioned Jesus.

He also suggested that things might have played out differently if he had praised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu instead.

He wrote: “I WAS TALKING ABOUT JESUS AND THEY TRIED TO SHUT ME DOWN. I AM HUNDRED PERCENT SURE THAT IF I WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CUT OFF.

“I GENUINELY HAVE NO BAD BLOOD TOWARDS THE HEADIES, RATHER, I AM GRATEFUL THEY PUT MY MIC BACK ON TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL.

“JESUS IS KING. HE IS BEFORE NOW AND FOREVER. INDUSTRY MACHINE.”

Despite the awkward on-stage moment, Odumodublvck made it clear that he holds no resentment toward the organisers and remains grateful for the platform to share his message.
