The Nigerian Army yesterday said though its base at Jilli, Yobe State was attacked by Boko Haram, it can account for all its troops at the location.

A statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Texas Chukwu said after the attack the troops reorganized themselves and repelled the terrorists, returning normalcy to the area.

He denied reports that over six hundred soldiers were still missing after terrorists overran the military base.

Chukwu said it was also untrue that about 100 of the troops that disappeared from Jilli after the clash have reported in Geidam town but very few of them had their weapons with them.

He called on the public, particularly residents of the affected areas to go about their legitimate businesses and disregard the said report as the Nigerian Army will continue to protect lives and property of citizens at all times.

He called on the media to always verify facts, as well as balance their reports before going to the press to avoid misinforming the public on sensitive issues.
