A Christian body representing Bishops from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria under the aegis of ‘The Niger Delta  Bishops’, has asked Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former chief security officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, to contest the 2019 presidency.

The group which met recently in Owerri, Imo State, sources told Global Excellence magazine, encouraged Mustapha, who they claimed is a detribalized Nigerian with leadership qualities, to try his luck for the number one office under his political party, The Green Party, promising to mobilize Nigerian Christians in his support.

The group met for the Owerri edition of its annual ‘Niger Delta Bishops and Ministers Conference’ programme, which was also attended by a star northern figure, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, traditional rulers from Niger Delta, other clergymen and top government functionaries.

In the same vein, a coalition of socio-political pressure groups under the umbrella of the Fishermen Association of Nigeria (FAN), also asked Al-Mustapha to throw his hat in the ring for the next year’s presidential race.

A statement signed by the coalition’s national president, Comrade Anthony Ashangye said that, “if Major Hamza Al-Mustapha fails or refuses to declare ambition to rule this country between now and Tuesday, we will have no option than to mobilise all associations of like minds across the country to force him to succumb to our patriotic wish by declaring his desire to run for the presidential seat.”
