Ace Gospel act, Evang. Tope Alabi is a household name and her music has been

enjoying massive airplay for many years.  No doubt, her fans cannot get enough of her songs as she keeps releasing albums.  What makes Tope Alabi unique you will all agree with me is her composition.  It will interest you to know that Tope Alabi was an actress for 21 years but did not make headways.

Hear her in one of the interviews she granted to a magazine. “I acted for 21 years and it was hard, I did not make it.  I followed Ishola Ogunsola to schools to sing back then, nothing came out of it.  Acting was what I wanted, I did not like being a musician.

God loves me and put me at the appropriate position, which was singing.  The late Alade

Aromire called me one day and said, you have been in Oriire caucus for years but

I don’t know why people don’t like using you in their films but anytime you sing, people listen to you.  He said he would write a story line while I turn it to a song.  I left his caucus because of that; I wanted to pursue the acting career, I ran to Yemi My Lover and Yemi used me.  I sang “Atolly Se O gba”.  I was ready to pay so that people can use me in their movies.  Though my parents said a Prophet came to our house at Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos and they said the girl of the family would be used by God.  They did not say if it would be singing or preaching.  I am the only female in the family and we were

Catholics.  I said I can’t be a Reverend Sister.  So my late mother said, if you don’t want to be a sister, let us see how God wants to use you”.  All these have come to pass as Evang. Tope Alabi has become Nigeria’s hottest gospel singer of this generation. Like every human being created by God, Tope Alabi has also gone through many challenges and turbulence in life.  She said “I always visit Ori-Oke to pray.  I am created to worship God.  When I am down, I praise God instead of praying.  I have so much turbulence in my life.  So many lies have been told about me on the internet to belittle me but I quenched the fire through praise.  I can destroy a whole city with my praise.  I know what David did with praise.

Just like the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote hawked sweets at childhood, Tope Alabi is no exception as she revealed that she  hawked raw eggs, rice and stew, garri before going to school at Ewutuntun Grammar School, Oshodi.  Tope Alabi got married 18 years ago and their marriage is blessed with children.  She runs her band with her husband, Soji Alabi.  Describing her husband, Tope says “my husband is my Daddy, my best pal and partner.  He is nice, he likes doing everything for me”.  On how they met,  “we met at the studio and he loves staying there a lot.  He is calm and we were friends for two to three years before he asked me out.  Thank God, I made the right choice”, she hinted.
